2008 Silver City Photo Workshop, Getchell Drug Store. Meserve M. Getchell arrived in Silver City in 1889 to be a clerk in this drug store and post office for his uncle, S.T.N. Smith, a pioneer of 1865. M. Getchell also helped his uncle with the Idaho Hotel, which Smith had purchased. In the early 1890s, following attempts at sheep ranching and milling, M. Getchell served out the term of former postmaster Richard Euler. He was reappointed for two more terms. In 1898, M. Getchell became a partner in the firm Shea, McLain and Getchell as proprietors of the Idaho Hotel. The post office, news agency and store was retained and in it he sold confections, stationery, cigars, tobacco, perfumes, and cheap jewelry. His brother, Asher A. Getchell, was assistant postmaster and manager of this store until 1898. (from Interesting Buildings in Silver City, Idaho, by Helen Nettleton)
