Mother’s Tea

Mothers Tea is a special time for moms to take a break for conversation and tea. Adults only, nursing babies always welcome. People new to the group are welcome to come to tea (please read F.A.Q. below for answers to any questions you may have)
Tea is generally held on the third Sunday, unless otherwise noted. The time and location are the decision of the host that month. Please contact the hostess directly to rsvp and for directions if you need them.
Tea is held either hosted by a NUG member or at a local teahouse.
If you are hosting a tea and wish to do so at a Tea House, please post to the list for r.s.v.p’s a few days in advance in order to make a reservation at the cafe or tea house of your choice.
If you would like to host a tea, please choose an open month and contact Amy.

TEA F.A.Q
I have never been to a tea, is this a good place to learn about unschooling?
It is a great place to meet unschoolers! Tea is a time to have adult conversation about all sorts of things, not just educational philosophy… though tea conversation does sometimes head in that direction, if you are looking for a chance to really pick people’s brains about unschooling, please come to a parents meeting.
I am hosting Tea, do I need to bake as well as Yvonnie?
Nope. It’s your tea, you can serve whatever you care too.
Do I have to serve tea?
well, you’d be surprised by how much people in this group like tea. but they also like other beverages too so if tea isn’t your cup of tea, surprise us!
Can I serve alchohol?
sure! do people expect alcohol? no. might people be pleasantly surprised if I make a pitcher of peach sangria? yes.
When I hear the word “tea” I think of a bunch of fancy people wearing fancy clothes. Is this the case? Do I have to wear white gloves?
Not unless you feel like it.
I’ve never been to NUG event, should I offer to host?
Please come and be a guest at tea, come to a parents meeting, come with your kids to the park or the beach and see if this is a group of people you want coming into your home, eating all of your snacks and drinking all of your tea before jumping in to host. We look forward to meeting you!
Can my family stick around and have tea with us?
Hopefully not. Tea is a special chance to get together and talk as adults. If you know that your family can’t commit to going off and having fun elsewhere, consider hosting tea in a tea house. An excellent place for tea is Tea Essence in Wicker Park.
It is the day of tea and my kids are sick and my husband has to go have an emergency root canal. what should I do?
Cancel! put a note out to the yahoo list, contact Amy as early as possible. If people show up at your door, they will be understanding, no one wants to pester a sick family.
What if I offer to host tea and no one comes?
there is no guarantee that everyone will be able to make it to tea every month. Generally at least one or two people show, usually 6-10. A good idea is to send a note to the yahoo list a few days before tea asking people to let you know if they are coming.
Should I bring anything to Tea?
you can if you like, but it is not mandatory or expected- just bring yourself!
