New “New to NUG” page
Welcome!
NUG welcomes new homeschooling families. If you are interested in learning more about unschooling, or are looking for like minded folks to play with, come join us at one of our scheduled gatherings:
How NUG works in a nutshell:
We are a non-directed support group, which means that there are technically no leaders, just people interested in offering their energy and ideas to the community. All activities are offered and organized by individuals, based on their interests and needs. For example, if someone wants to organize something, such as a field trip, she/he determines when it will happen, where it will take place, what age groups can participate, how much it will cost, etc… that information is then posted to the website, and people can choose to participate or not. Everyone is welcome to organize anything.
If the thought of diving into a new crowd seems intimidating, Read this article about strategies for “breaking in” to an existing homeschooling group. Keep in mind that NUG is a constantly growing group, many of the people you will see at your first visit will be new to the group as well. One thing that we all have in common: we’re all interested in forming a community of unschoolers in Chicago.
We look forward to meeting you!
